The Flexbone offense, featuring triple option concepts, is of the most difficult offensive attacks to defend year in and year out. In this video, Coach Brad Seaburg diagrams the Midline Follow and Midline Triple plays. Coach Seaburg details the keys, reads, and fundamentals by position that are necessary to install and execute these schemes.

Midline Follow

Seaburg starts by giving an explanation of the Midline Follow play. As he explains, it is a complementary play to the Inside Veer in that it gives the offense the opportunity to make an interior lineman the dive key, and allows the offense to take advantage of defensive teams that are heavily focused on scraping 2nd level defenders to the perimeter. Coach Seaburg covers the footwork and mechanics for the quarterback and fullback, as well as blocking rules for each player. You'll learn:

  • How to teach the fit block and shoulder block that are utilized by the slots.
  • How to coach the base and reverse base blocks used by the interior lineman.
  • The Midline Follow play run against several defensive alignments.

Midline Triple

Coach Seaburg also diagrams the Midline Triple play. The Midline Triple is a complementary play to the Inside Veer as it is a triple option play, but allows the offense to potentially read two defensive lineman rather than block them. Seaburg goes through the Midline Triple in detail, including blocking rules for a variety of defensive alignments and a simple count system to identify the dive key and pitch key. You'll learn how to teach the twirl motion used by the slots that takes advantage of defenses that try to rotate the secondary on motion. Additionally, Coach Seaburg shows several ways to handle a "0" nose based on the gameplan, plus drills that teach and reinforce proper fundamentals for the quarterback, fullback, and slots.

The Flexbone offense and the Inside Veer play are incredibly difficult to defend. With the Midline Follow and Midline Triple schemes, your team will be ready to set records this fall!
