The Flexbone offense, featuring triple option concepts, can be one of the most difficult offenses to defend. In this video, Coach Brad Seaburg breaks down a basic triple option play: the Inside Veer. He details keys, reads, and fundamentals by position that are necessary to install and execute the Inside Veer.
Inside Veer
First, you'll get an overview of the Flexbone offense, including some of the base formations that Coach Seaburg's team utilizes to run the Inside Veer play. Seaburg also diagrams the offensive line technique calls and slot calls to determine who the dive key and pitch key are on each play.
Four basic defensive looks are commonly seen, and each look is covered in detail. Several examples of each defensive look are given, and both good and bad examples of execution are shown for instructional purposes. Coach Seaburg explains how he teaches his team to determine who the dive key is, determine who the pitch key is, and easily identify who the play-side slot is responsible for blocking.
Position Fundamentals
Seaburg explains some of the most important fundamental skills by position that are necessary for execution of the Inside Veer. Footwork and mechanics for the quarterback and fullback are explained in detail, and practice drill footage is used that teaches and reinforces proper fundamentals. Slot back fundamentals, wide receiver blocking techniques, and offensive line fundamentals are also covered. Some of the main concepts you will learn are:
- How to drill the QB and fullback footwork and mesh reads
- How to teach the slot's pitch relationship and the slot's play-side arc block
